Bicycle Built for Two

More inspiration pictures. One is a pencil sketch that I did when we were talking about a "bicycle built for two" theme, the other is a (disgustingly?) charming photo that pretty much nails that concept.

Thematic Inspirations

We've been talking about the idea of a more "frontier" Olympia as an aesthetic approach. I found some pictures...

First picture is of the old brewery, second is of the Eastside, circa the 1860s (the little white house amidst all that pasture is the Bigelow house).

Tin Can Dreams

So - while I'm hogging the blog topics with wedding related posts (I know - Club Committment is a nuanced publication) let me share one post on the subject of my future, blessed nuptuals. Did I mention that I'm drawn to yellow, silver and green?

I ran upon this photo at Thrifty Fun.

This discovery inspired further investigation into tin can decorations. Read on...

One-time use tin can invitations kinda miss the upcycle point but these are super cute. The invitation actually comes in a tin can!

Candles poured into tin cans.

This is just a smart idea from Craftzine.com blog.

And the oldie but a goodie - the tin can luminaria.

With a great set of directions.
The blog fireflies and cottonwood  offers a few fresh takes on the tin can luminaria - way barn-chic.

But these Wind Spirals from Garden Junk are the best yet.

Board Game Center Piece

Not only did these folks have zebra prints at their wedding but their center pieces were all ages board games. The PB&J heart shaped sandwiches also make me smile.

Conversation with the Dress Lady

So, I found the country dresses below on this woman's blog:  http://glamspoon.typepad.com/ and started communicating with her to see where I could find her dresses or something similar, cause when I saw them, I thought she was really on to something.  She's willing to make us some custom dresses!  I just like her energy! This is our conversation:

Me:

Hi! I just found a collage of four beautiful dresses on your blog, the "Country Dress" collection. Looks like you posted this about a year ago, so I'm assuming they're no longer available, but I'm looking for something just like this for my friend's country fair-themed wedding. Any hints on where I could find something like this between Seattle and Portland? Thank you, thank you!!

-Sarah
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------glamspoon:
Hi there!

I make those country dresses every year, and I might have a few left from last season. What size are you? I'll take a look... I'll also be getting ready to make up some spring/summer items in April. Well, first when is the wedding?

You might also take a peek at Frock Shop, Suzy carries lots of great dress options. www.shopfrockshop.com
I know Portland has great shops on NE Alberta - last time I was there a few great shops right in a row.

Me:
That is wonderful! Thank you! The wedding is actually not until September of 2011. It's our best friend so the other bridesmaid and I are just so giddy we can't wait and we've started looking for dresses already! How do your sizes run? I am about a size 6 and the other girl is kind of a small-ish 10. We would love to see the new dresses when they come out! Do you sell them on etsy? Your blog said you sold them last year at bouncing wall, and I live in Seattle, so it would be great to see them in person and try them on! I'll follow your blog, I assume you'll post something when the new collection comes out? Also, if I was unable to get one, is there any chance you'd be willing to make a custom order for us for an extra charge?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh Sarah, you're a dream client! Lots of time, tiny little figures to dress... I'd love to make something custom for the two of you. I will, however, keep you posted on new items as they become available.

Do you have a color scheme in mind or is it totally open right now? How about style: thin straps, cap sleeves, halter, knee-length...

Thanks so much for getting in touch with me. Now I'm really looking forward to spring. :)

The Autoharp

Have I told you all that I want to learn how to play the Autoharp?
My dream is to serenade dear Seamus at the reception - or maybe to play a song with him on the harmonica. Sometimes I'm so cute it kills me.

Rustic Weddings

Check out these Rustic Weddings from GreenWeddingShoes.com (thank you Malia).

From these photos I have learned:
  • burlap is in - like it.
  • little white flowers (carnations or paper) are very pretty when strung up and hung from the rustic scenery
  • I don't like brown or brownish gray Bride's Maid Dresses.
  • I do like sunflowers and wheat (dried grasses?) for flowers.

Putting heads together

I just wanted to make public this beautiful image of Sarah and Seamus visualizing the wedding at West Bay Park. It warms my heart - although we've decided not to use this site.

Save The Date: July 10&11

Let's make a date to go to this!  I think we could find a lot of great crafty ideas for decorations and other things.  Whenever I compliment a hip Seattleite on her cool handmade looking leather bag or screen printed tee, we inevitably end up talking about this event.  I've been dying to go, and I think you guys need to come along.

Update

Good News! I got a very nice reply back from the woman who makes the dresses below. Apparently she makes a collection of "country dresses" every year and a new assortment comes out in April! I think she sells them at a crafty boutique in Queen Anne. I'll keep researching this.

Annika,
She also said there are some good shops with similar styles of handmade dresses on NE Alberta in Portland. Perhaps you could scout?

The Barn

Club Date: March 24, 2010
549 Days until September 24, 2011
Yesterday my betrothed and I had a long (and fairly heated) argument about where the ceremony will take place at Millersylvania Environmental Learning Center. The options were 1 the barn and 2 in front of the lake. It seems that the barn is winning out. Luckily the barn is so close to the lake - that it doesn't really even matter.
So - team let's get cracking on decotating ideas for that barn. There's power, a dirt floor, and a sturdy roof over people's heads. Maybe we can offer folks coffee and tea before they sit down. Late September morningings can be chilly. Especially when you're wearing a strapless zebra print Bride's Maids dress. Maybe a zebra print sweater would be a warmer idea.
Love,
Club Captain (do you remember my Captain sweatshirt?)

all the single ladies!

So everyone knows that bridesmaids need to be like flattering mirrors to the blushing bride. The flutter of best friends around the woman in white should be like a pink-colored haze of beauty. Nobody should even recognize they are there, except to note how astonishingly lovely the bride looks. This is a big job. So Sarah and I, naturally, went to David's Bridal where all dreams come true. We think these dresses will probably get the job done:

Zebra dresses are the winner!! It should definitely go with the rustic barn theme.

I'm almost as committed to boots like these as I am to my two best friends...

What do you think my loves? In preparation for our Captain's pending marriage, we've decided to wear matching cowgirl boots to the wedding. Solidarity, thy name is Style. I'm thinkin' something like these.
